5 Financial Mindset I'm Carrying this 2023

2022 was a year of healing and reset as I wind down a business that was a huge part of my personal & financial identity.


Through the process, I realized I had an unhealthy relationship with money. I also unconsciously carried many money beliefs that were sabotaging my success and mental health.


My goal for 2023 is to carry with me the following mindsets:


🌟 Your health is the greatest wealth and asset. A healthy mind and body give you the strength and energy to achieve better results in every aspect of your life. I strength train 5x a week, eat the same healthy dinners most nights, and see my therapist once a month.


🌟 When I was a kid, I wanted to be rich. I grew up in an Asian household where money at times was a source of stress and in an environment where my friends came from generational family wealth. I saw money as the epitome of success and my lack of it as a reflection of my abilities. This year, I’m challenging myself to redefine what it means to be a ‘worthy’ person.


🌟 Growing up, my dad often repeated Notorious B.I.G’s phrase, “Mo money, mo problems.” A fancy car can add unintentional stress because you are worried about people scratching your car. Be careful of what you own because they can end up owning you. This is why I choose a minimalist lifestyle.


🌟 Relentlessly cut back on the things you don’t love and spend on the things you do is part of living a rich life. I love spending money on experiences (Friday night dinners with my partner and fun getaways with friends) and freedom (investing >50% of my income).


🌟 Getting money vs. keeping money are two very different skills. Getting money requires taking risks, concentrated bets on one or two investments, and being optimistic. Keeping money requires the opposite of taking risk. It’s diversifying your money, humility, and fear that what you’ve made can be taken away from you. I’m focused on building a new business in HR & Talent, and keeping my money.
